The Associate Search function uses the Search Index with the Database to perform. If you alter either or you’ve experienced network errors, they can become out-of-sync. You can update and test the Database/Search Index to make sure they are in sync and up-to-date.
The Associate search settings are configured during implementation.
However, if they have been or need to be altered:

On the Associates Search Tools tab:
Locate the Search Information section.
Click the Search settings link.
You will be redirected to the Associates CRM tab under Advanced Settings.
Under the Search section, make sure the following settings have been set:
Enable TypeAhead on Disco UI checkbox
The remaining fields are left blank by default.
