Alternate Payment Methods

Nexio is a payment processor merchant described as an "open payments platform". They offer chargeback management, tokenization, and global payments. You can integrate Nexio as a standard payment processor, an ACH processor (customer uses bank account info instead of a card to pay), or even offer Alternative Payment Methods (APMs).

Through Nexio, DirectScale supports the following Alternate Payment Methods:

  • AliPay
  • Apple Pay (supported Apple devices only)
  • Google Pay
  • Klarna
  • PayPal
  • UnionPay
  • WeChat Pay

Enabling Nexio APM Configuration Settings


We are currently in the process of configuring Web Office shopping pages to support the use of Alternate Payment Methods. Web Office does not support APMs at this time. If you enable and map APMs to display in Web Office, the APMs will not be functional until development is complete. 

Before you begin the APM integration process, you need to enable the configuration settings within the Corporate Admin

To enable the Nexio APM configuration settings, contact Customer Care and request that the Nexio APM Release Toggle is enabled. A team member will assist by enabling this toggle to activate the Nexio APM Settings and Nexio APM Sandbox tabs mentioned in the subsequent sections below. 

Customer Care Internal Steps

  1. Navigate to Corporate Admin > Advanced Settings > Release Toggles > Merchants.

  2. Check the Enable Nexio APMs checkbox.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save Changes.

  4. Confirm that the Nexio APM Settings and Nexio APM Sandbox tabs now appear on the Advanced Settings page for the client to configure. 

Nexio Setup

Once Nexio APMs have been enabled by a member of the Customer Care team, you now need to create a Nexio account. After your account is created, Nexio will provide you with credentials that must be later entered on the Merchants page in Corporate Admin.

  1. Contact the Nexio integrations team. You can locate Nexio’s contact information here.
  2. Set up an account with Nexio and inform them which Alternate Payment Methods you’d like to deploy.
      Nexio can confirm which merchants support the applicable Alternate Payment Method(s).
  3. Acquire the necessary credentials and information from Nexio:
  4. Enter your credentials into the corresponding Nexio fields.

Nexio APM Settings

Apple Domain Association File

  This section is only applicable to Apple Pay configuration. For non-Apple Pay configuration, please proceed to the Configure Nexio Merchant APMs section below to begin.

To utilize Apple Pay, complete the steps outlined in the Nexio Apple Pay Configuration Guide. Once the configuration is complete, contact Nexio to request the merchant Domain Association File. This file is required for all clients and confirms the location in which the payment method will be offered.  

Upon receipt of the Domain Association File from Nexio:

  1. Click the Choose Domain Association File button.

  2. Select the file location from your desktop.
  3. Click Upload.

Select Download File to download a copy of the Domain Associate File at any time.

Configure Nexio Merchant APMs

  A Nexio Merchant ID can only be configured in the Nexio APM Settings section if the username and password were previously entered and saved successfully in the Nexio portion of the Merchants Settings page.

This setting provides a mapping between Nexio Merchants and their supported APMs. Once the APM boxes are checked here, those APMs will become available on the Payment Methods page.

To configure Alternate Payment Methods in Corporate Admin:

  1. Identify which Nexio Merchant ID you’d like to configure. Each saved Nexio Merchant ID will display on the page, each with its own configurations.

  2. Check the boxes for each APM supported by the Nexio Merchant ID you are configuring.

      An APM can only function if the corresponding box is checked and the Nexio Merchant ID supports the selected APM.
  3. A success message will appear for each APM to confirm the payment methods were successfully enabled.

Mapping a New APM

Admin: Corporate Admin
Page: Settings > Company Settings > Payment Methods

For your selected APMs to be available for use, you'll need to map them to your regions and stores.

Nexio APM Sandbox

Admin: Corporate Admin
Page: Settings > Advanced Settings > Nexio APM Sandbox

Permission: ViewAdministration(), ViewAdvancedSettings()

  Test credentials are recommended for use within the stage environment during testing. The Nexio APM Sandbox utilizes real order numbers. Payments will be processed if actual credentials are used. Proceed with caution.

DirectScale offers a Sandbox within Corporate Admin where you can test your Alternate Payment Methods before going live. Using the Nexio APM Sandbox will allow you to interact with the APM buttons as they are configured with DirectScale. 

Optional instructions have been provided for additional information on Enabling APM Buttons, Public APM Operations, Rendering API iframes, and Handling Customer Redirect Events. Check the Display instructions box to view instructions as needed.

To test Alternate Payment Method functionality:

    1. Complete the required fields shown on the Input Form.
      • Customer
      • Currency Code
      • Order Type
      • Region
      • Store
      • Shipping Method ID
      • Warehouse ID
      • Items

    2. Click Submit
    3. A Success and/or Error message will appear confirming which APM buttons were successfully generated for the order.

      As the various APM buttons appear within the Sandbox, you may experience an Error 418 message. This means that the current device is not supported by Apple Pay. The device must be supported by Apple to appear both in testing and when deploying to a live environment. Refer to Devices compatible with Apple Pay and Sandbox Testing for more information.

      If you experience other errors, please contact DirectScale support.

    4. Select the appropriate APM button to begin testing.
    5. Proceed with the corresponding verification and payment steps based on the selected APM. 
    6. You will now be directed to the APM Sandbox Customer Redirect page. This page contains Redirect Information and Returned Data.
        Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal do not automatically redirect the customer. Manual redirect is required for these APMs using the provided Returned Data. Check the Display instructions box and refer to the Handling Customer Redirect Events section for more information.
    7. Review the Order History tab on the Associate’s Detail page to confirm the order was successfully placed.
    8. Select Reset to clear the form and continue testing.
