Implement "Publish Environment" button functionality on Backstage widgets

0

Currently there is a button called "Publish Environment" that you can choose while on the retail staging site and it will publish your changes to both staging AND live sites.

It would be great if we could have that same functionality in the Backstage environment, specifically for widgets. The ability to publish the environment and have both staging and live updated with a particular widget would streamline the process. This would also remove the need to copy and paste code back and forth between each environment.

In addition, the functionality of this button on the retail site is only one direction (Staging to Live). If that was a two-way street we could ensure that our staging site stays in sync with our live site, especially if we're implementing a quick fix/change on our live site and want to update staging in tandem.

Thanks!

  • Hi TJ Whidby

We actually do have the ability to publish most of the content you control in your Backstage environment!  We don't have a help document created quite yet on how to do this, but  if you log into your Web Office Admin you should see an option on the menu for Administration > Publishing.  In that page you can select "Widgets" and publish all widgets at once or a single widget at a time - both from Stage to Live and Live to Stage.  Keep in mind that publishing is an advanced feature and should be used with caution because we delete and replace the entire page/feature being published.

The ability to publish is still being rolled out on the Retail Site Admin so not every feature has the two-way publishing, but it will soon.  Stay in the loop with our News from DirectScale to see when new features are added.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Kristin, thank you for the information! We will be cautious when using that functionality to publish items.

    I appreciate the help!
